WALKING
AT 700 NORTH |
|
At
the same latitude as the northern part of Alaska and Siberia, there is a
coastal landscape that is incredibly beautiful. Fjords, islands and
majestic mountains make this landscape into some of the most dramatic in
the world. Because of the Gulf Stream, which leads warm sea currents from
the Caribbean and all the way up to the northern coastline of Norway, the
climate is more temperate and fertile than you could imagine at this
latitude. The fjords do not freeze during the winter. However, when you
travel from the coast and further inland, temperatures can dip to as low
as –500 C – outdoor activities are then reduced to an absolute
minimum. Summer or winter, you will be able to experience spectacular and diverse nature in Troms and Finnmark. The nature here in the north offers fantastic experiences, and nature’s own attractions are plentiful, for example, the Øksfjordjøkelen glacier that calves directly into the ocean. It is daylight all summer, and it never gets totally dark. From the end of April until the middle of August, here you can experience daylight all night – imagine not being able to be sure whether it is day or night. |
