SUMMER
- a taste of the Arctic . . .

Peak walking

The region is punctuated with many fine vantage points offering glorious views of the surrounding countryside. Many of these peaks are accessible both summer and winter

Five recommended routes are described on a map:

  • Olderbakktinden, 900 above sea-leavel.
  • Garggovarri, 472 above sea-leavel.
  • Ruossavarri, 807 above sea-leavel.
  • Daumannstind, 682 above sea-leavel.
  • Naiggacohkka, 771 above sea-leavel.

The trails are unmarked, but with basic map-reading skills it is easy to find the selected peaks. How long it takes, of course, depends on what condition you are in, but you can count on 2-3 hours to reach a summit. We recommend you set yourself a goal of a summit a day, in order to get the best out of the trip and views.

Maps and registration cards are available from ANSI Turistservice. On each peak there is a box containing a registration book and a punch for clipping your registration card (as in the sport of orienteering). After visiting all five peaks you can claim a special 5-peaks t-shirt.

Remember your map and compass. You are responsible for your own safety. In Norway you have a legal right to access the countryside on foot. Along with this right are a number of obligations based on giving due care and consideration to the countryside:

  • Do not frighten animals in the area.
  • Take your rubbish home with you.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash from 1 April to 20 August.
